Kathleen Petka

Kathleen Sneed Petka has been teaching Visual Art at Walton High School since the fall of 2004. She graduated from Walton in 1999 and was a member of the varsity volleyball team that won the first state championship in 1998. Kathleen coached the Walton Junior Varsity team in 2005 and is in her ninth year of coaching Walton Gymnastics. Last year, Kathleen coached our Junior Varsity Developmental group along with her sister Bonny Silvestrov, who helped Walton win three state championships.
 
Mrs. Petka has a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Art Education from the University of Georgia, and from the University of West Georgia, she has a Masters of Education in Art Education and an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Technology. Kathleen teaches the Visual Art Comprehensive classes through the AP Studio Art Classes. She has been an AP reader for the past two years in Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition, Kathleen is a member of NAEA, GAEA, and PAGE. She was nominated to receive a full-tuition scholarship to the SCAD Educator Essentials Conference this summer in Savannah, GA. She enjoys every aspect of art, spending time with family and friends, sports, traveling, cooking, baking, eating, and running. She has completed one full marathon and three half-marathons. She won Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb’s the Fan of the Week on the Today Show’s fourth hour in July and will be traveling to Colorado in October.

Bonny Silvestrov

Bonny Sneed Silvestrov is the youngest of seven children who all graduated from Walton High School. She was a starting setter for Walton’s Varsity Volleyball team for three years and has three state rings. Bonny played volleyball at UNCA for one year and was a nominee for Rookie of the Year in the Big South Conference. Bonny coached the 2005 and 2006 Junior Varsity teams here at Walton.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia and has a Masters of Education in Speech Language Pathology from the University of West Georgia. Bonny works at a rehabilitation center with the geriatric population treating speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders.
